It’s a sad day for football comedy. Saturday Oct 11th, this year’s Big Ten Elimination season came to an end. It seems only yesterday Two weeks ago<\/span><\/em><\/strong> that Penn State University was on top of the world. People Idiots<\/em><\/span><\/strong> considered them one of the top teams in the country. Pre-season, they appeared to be a playoff lock. Because of a schedule consisting of two real games<\/em><\/span><\/strong>. Now, after back-to-back weeks of losing to arguably the worst team in the Big Ten,* now they’re… wait. Let’s take a detour for a moment. I need some time to process what just happened to college football… this website… the world?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I don’t usually like rehash the same topic so quickly, but let’s talk about Luke Fickell. How does this guy still have a job? I didn’t get around to posting last week, so let’s recap the Michigan vs Wisconsin game. Because you’re too sad to talk about this week’s Michigan game? <\/em><\/span><\/strong>Shut up. Yes… Maybe… Let’s see where this post goes because clearly I don’t have a game plan. Ahh so you’re just like Michigan’s coaching staff.<\/em><\/span><\/strong> <\/em> Maybe. No. I think they do have a game plan. I just think they suck at executing it… and also it might be a bad one. I dunno… I watched the last too games on a phone and with tiny children bouncing balloons between me and the TV so it’s hard to tell. Stop distracting me! Anyway. Michigan is up 17 points in the 4th quarter. Wisconsin has the ball and takes longer than a Jim Harbaugh 2 minute drill (which lasts 8 minutes) to kick a field goal. They have a pretty good attempt at an on-sides kick but Michigan manages to recover it. Now they’re down 14 with a 2-3 minutes left and 3 timeouts. The defense does a pretty good job against the obvious Michigan running plays and the clock ticks down under 2:30. The announcers are questioning why Wisconsin isn’t calling timeout before the 2 minute break. At the time, I’m on the fence about this… Using a timeout with 2:26 left saves 26 seconds vs letting it run to the 2 minute warning. using it after the 2 minute warning saves 40 seconds. So if you’re still on defense after the 2 minute warning, it makes sense to have saved the timeouts. If you can get them off the field before the 2 minute warning then it makes sense to use them. Wisconsin elects to let the clock go to the 2 minute warning. On 2nd, Wisconsin makes another stop and it’s 3rd and long with 3 timeouts… and they don’t call them. Wisconsin has a chance to get the ball back down 14 with 1:50 and 2 timeouts and they just don’t. They let the clock run and Michigan eventually kneels out the game. The long field goal drive, the onsides kick… To me this means Luke Fickell was not trying to win. He was trying to look like he was trying to win. If I’m Wisconsin’s AD, I’m leaving Luke Fickell at DTW (or Grand Rapids… I’m not sure where they fly out of) wondering why the flight number on his boarding pass says “WTF 69420.” How the $%& does this guy still have a job?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I know some of you are thinking “A $25 million buyout is why he still has a job.” but that gets us back to our main topic. I’m eliminated. The Big Ten Elimination season is over. Michigan looks bad after a pretty pathetic showing against USC. Michigan State is in a … state… where I don’t feel comfortable piling on what I assume is 50% of you readers out there (Hi Matt and Brandon!)**** So you know that the likelihood of more content this year is nearing Purdue’s chance of making a bowl game. To top it all off, Sunday Frames Janklin was fired. This is a huge blow to sports comedy writers everywhere. Penn State will pay this man $50 Million to deprive us all of football comedy gold. Who will ice their own kicker? Who will turn an semi-mobile QB with no offensive line into a playoff “caliber” offense? Where will the laughter come from?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*UCLA was clearly the worst team in the Big Ten** Then they somehow beat Penn State. This made Northwestern clearly the worst team in the Big Ten. Now maybe Penn State is the worst team in the Big Ten???***<\/p>\n\n\n\n
