Hey guys! Have you noticed a missing theme from this years’ posts? Remember how I used to always say there’s two possibilities? Either the Big Ten is all really good or the Big Ten sucks? Then I’d go on to explain that much like Schrodinger’s dead cat, once you open the box to examine it, there is really only one sad and depressing reality… Well this year is different! I think the Big Ten is actually really good. (Well… and/or the other teams are not very good) Let’s take a look around the outside first.
ND took a little longer than normal but eventually proved that they’re still an overrated cult lead by the offspring of Violet Beauregarde and the coach from Beavis and Butthead.
#7 Miami hasn’t played anybody since it turns out Florida State and Notre Dame are both terrible. They lost to Pitt. Clemson and Oklahoma are probably really good but how confident are you that either would beat Wisconsin in a bowl game? Ohio State? Penn State? MSU? U-M (with a functional quarterback)? That’s 5 teams in the Big Ten that at least have a shot at upsetting half of the current playoff selection.
Now everybody’s favorite SEC… The SEC sucks. The SEC East is basically the Big Ten West… You know what… let’s break this down Here’s the current rankings for the SEC East and Big Ten West:
- Georgia (11-1), Wisconsin (12-0) Turns out Georgia’s schedule wasn’t that tough (ND and Florida suck) and Wisconsin’s wasn’t quite that easy (Iowa and Michigan are decent). I’ll give a slight edge to Georgia for now but if Wisconsin beats OSU this weekend then I think I’d take them head to head in this match up.
- South Carolina (8-4), Northwestern (9-3). Both of these teams lost 2 games against top 10 teams. Northwestern’s victory over Iowa and a 9-3 Michigan State means I’ll give them the edge in this one.
- Kentucky (7-5), Purdue (6-6) Both suck but Purdue sucked with QB issues and is much improved from last years “worse than Rutgers” status.. Also if you look at their common opponents Missouri and Louiseville, Kentucky won by 6 and lost by 27. Purdue won by 32 and lost by 7. Gotta give Purdue the edge here… Unlesss Kentucky has an X-Ray machine… Purdue may have dropped the furthest in my “Teams that I don’t Hate” rankings this year. Still above Rutgers but that’s mostly because they’re not Rutgers.
- Missouri(7-5), Iowa(7-5) Iowa beat OSU and only lost by 2 to PSU. Missouri sucks
- Florida(4-7), Nebraska(4-8). Both used to be good. Both suck. Both fired their coaches this year. They were basically the same team except there are no sharks for Mike Riley to bang* in Nebraska. Florida is probably the right choice here but excessive Scott Frost lobbying means they’ll split the title of “Teams with records as bad as Rutgers”**
- Vanderbilt and Minnesota… I’m going with the fighting PJ Flecks
- Tennessee and Illinois. Well… Illinois is worse than Rutgers and Lovie Smith sucks… but on the other hand… Tennessee still has Interim Head Coach Brady Hoke after hiring “ties-to-Jerry-Sandusky” Greg Schiano, realizing that this was a bad idea, and then firing him 2 days later… soo… call it a wash?
SEC West vs Big Ten East? well… this post is getting too long and I wanna go play videogames so… stay tuned for next time when I talk about this and how it relates to how the CFP should be selected.
*Allegedly
**Technically Florida since one of Florida’s games got cancelled they are only 4-7. Mathematically this record is better than 4-8 BUT the extra BYE week gives them an advantage. Maybe without a week off they lose to Tennessee and go 3-7… Whoa, what if Tennessee wins, doesn’t fire Gundy, Brady Hoke is never Interim coach and the Schiano thing never happens. Man… A buttefly flaps its… oh wait, it was a hurricane. Never mind.
Which team is cyborg in all of this? Hahaha just kidding this is cool sports athletic time talk, so for real seriouslies, how are the lions doing?
John, your URL was hilarious but this is a family friendly blog… It’s not… but I was starting to get tempted to know if that website still exists… and I’m at work. So sadly I had to delete it. IDK why it asks for a URL anyway…
